Computer clock is resetting

Hi guys,

I need your help. I have been having this strange thing happen: for one
week, the clock on my computer is staying at the same hour, and if i set it
to the right one, it switches back at some point. It goes to 9:00PM and then
counts through one hour and SWITCHES back to 9:00pm.

Any idea?? Could this be some weird virus??

My date is not changing either, so my computer keeps thinking it is the same
day, and it affects for example my Outlook reminders.

I have Windows Vista Business.

Thanks for your suggestions.

It sounds like something is probably resetting your clock for some reason, so it could be a virus, but on rare occasions, the CMOS
battery will die, causing your clock to reset or behave oddly. If it is the battery, your clock will probably stop functioning
entirely, and BIOS settings may change back to default as well. You can try swapping in one from another computer and seeing if
that fixes the problem. It's been an awfully long time since I've dealt with CMOS battery issues though, so it's entirely possible
I'm out-of-date at this point. I'm pretty sure the above info still applies, though.

That's about all I can think of off-hand.

Hey Rob,

Thanks for the help. I have a new bit of info to add though--maybe this will
help: it is resetting itself only if I put my computer in Sleep mode--not
just after one hour. It'll run along, until I put it to sleep, and then when
I come back into Windows, its reset itself.

The only other thing that suggests is that it might be a BIOS problem in the sense that it's not handling going into/out of sleep
mode correctly. Check to see if there are any BIOS updates for your machine, and if not, I'd go with the battery replacement.

If it doesn't happen when you shut off (and leave it off for a while), but only when you put it to sleep, that would point more
firmly towards a BIOS bug; if it resets any time the power is off for a while, that would almost certainly be a battery problem.
